EU benennt Vermittler für Camp Ashraf
Die EU hat laut Reuters den ehemaligen belgischen EU-Botschafter Jean De Ruyt beauftragt, sich in Zusammenarbeit mit den Vereinten Nationen, der irakischen Regierung und anderen für eine Lösung der Krise in Camp Ashraf einzusetzen. Das rund 65 Kilometer von Bagdad entfernte Lager ist die Basis der iranischen Volksmudjahedin (PMOI), die einst auf der Seite Saddam Husseins gegen den Iran kämpften. Von den USA wird die Organisation als terroristische Vereinigung angesehen, die EU strich sie 2009 von ihrer Terrorliste. Seit dem Sturz Saddam Husseins sind die rund 3000 Einwohner des Lagers von Menschenrechtsverletzungen bedroht. Das Lager wurde bereits Schauplatz blutiger Zusammenstöße zwischen irakischen Sicherheitskräften und Bewohnern, mehr als 30 Bewohner wurden dabei getötet. Struan Strevenson, Leiter der Irak-Delegation des europäischen Parlaments, bezeichnete die Ernennung De Ruyts als Vermittler als einen Durchbruch, der „eine Srebrenica-artige Katastrophe“ in Camp Ashraf verhindern könne. Nach Stevensons Angaben sollen die Einwohner des Lagers UN-Flüchtlingsstatus bekommen und in EU-Staaten und anderen Drittstaaten aufgenommen werden, fügte jedoch hinzu, das dieser Prozess noch länger andauern könne.

Heute erhebt das Justizministerium Vorwürfe gegen zwei Personen, die vorgeblich versucht haben, hier in den Vereinigten Staaten einen tödlichen Anschlag auf einen ausländischen Botschafter zu verüben, der von Teilen der iranischen Regierung angeordnet wurde.
Manssor Arbabsiar, ein eingebürgerter US-Bürger mit iranischem Pass, der im vergangenen Monat in New York verhaftet wurde, wird beschuldigt, zusammen mit einigen Mitgliedern eines Arms der Iranischen Revolutionsgarde ein internationales Mordkomplott geplant zu haben, das die Ermordung des saudi-arabischen Botschafters in den Vereinigten Staaten zum Ziel hatte.
Laut der heute im südlichen Bezirksgericht von New York erhobenen Anklageschrift wird Arbabsiar beschuldigt, gemeinsam mit Gholam Shakuri, einem in Iran lebenden Mitglied der Al-Kuds-Einheit, und anderen iranischen Verschwörern 1,5 Millionen US-Dollar für den Mordanschlag organisiert zu haben. LAT: ”An elaborate Iranian-backed plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States was disrupted by FBI and DEA agents, officials said Tuesday. Members of an elite Iranian security force planned to detonate a bomb at a busy Washington restaurant, killing Adel Al-Jubeir, the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the U.S. and possibly over 100 bystanders, according to documents filed in New York federal court. The State Department has listed Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism since 1984. The current plot was infiltrated by a Drug Enforcement Agency informant posing as a member of a Mexican drug cartel, officials said. The plotters planned to pay a member of the Zetas cartel $1.5 million to carry out the attack, and two advance payments of nearly $50,000 each were wired to an FBI-controlled bank account in August, they said. An Iranian American, Manssor Arbabsiar, 56, has been arrested in the case. An Iran-based member of the secret Quds Force unit of that country’s Revolutionary Guard, Gholam Shakuri, was also charged but is not in custody, officials said. Iranischer Botschafter kommt nicht nach Neuhardenberg
“Nach heftigen Protesten gegen den für Sonnabend geplanten Auftritt des Iranischen Botschafters, Ali Reza Sheikh Attar, in Neuhardenberg, hat die Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg den Termin abgesagt.
Die Stiftung teilte heute mit, sie sehe sich angesichts der im Vorfeld laut gewordenen vehementen Vorwürfe nicht in der Lage, vor allem das Podiumsgespräch störungsfrei und mit der gebotenen Sicherheit für Podiumsgäste und Publikum abhalten zu können.
Es sollte die Akzeptanz der beiden Nationaldichter Hafiz und Goethe in ihren jeweiligen Ländern diskutiert werden. Unter anderem die Internationale Gesellschaft für Menschenrechte hatte den geplanten Auftritt Attars verurteilt, da der Politiker ein “menschenverachtendes Regime” repräsentiere.”

Iran Analysis: The Plot to Kill the Saudi Ambassador — Does This Story Make Sense?

The details of the story are developing, but this is the synopsis….
According to the American government, elements inside the Iranian regime were willing to pay Mexican drug dealers $1.5 Million (USD) to kill a Saudi official in the US, and possibly dozens of bystanders, potentially sparking a war that Tehran is ill-equipped to win, during a time of increased isolation in the world and the region for the Islamic Republic.
All the evidence that we currently have to evaluate this claim can be divided into two categories: the official US complaint against the alleged Iranian agent Manssor Arbabsiar, and common sense.
The common sense answer is that this is a preposterous story, Iran would have nothing to gain and everything to lose from this act.

Nasrin Sotoudeh’s Husband Summoned Again For Writing Letter to Prosecutor
Reza Khandan, husband of prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, was summoned again to Evin Prison Court last week. Khandan told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that the reason for his new summons was a letter he wrote to Tehran’s Prosecutor last yea, following his wife’s arrest. “In the repeated summonses they had been sending my lawyer for a while, they asked that I appear within 20 days. I went to Evin Court last week,” Khandan told the Campaign.
“Last year, I wrote a grievance letter to Tehran’s Prosecutor, describing things that had happened to my wife and my family after her arrest. Writing letters to the Prosecutor is common among prisoners’ families. This was a personal letter and was not published on the internet or the press. But unfortunately, now the contents of the letter are being used as an excuse for putting me on trial,” said Khandan.
Khandan has spoken with the press since Sotoudeh’s arrest about her condition in prison. After writing the letter to the Tehran Prosecutor, he was detained for 24 hours when he appeared at Evin Prison Court. Last week he was summoned to Evin Prison Court again to present his last defense.
