Liechtenstein: Asylsuchender hält an Forderungen fest
Vaduz. – Mittlerweile wurde er ins Spital eingeliefert. Zwar verweigert der 33-jährige Iraner jegliche Nahrungs- und Flüssigkeitsaufnahme, dank einer Infusion ist er aber ausser Lebensgefahr. «Es ist eine extrem schwierige Situation», sagte Thomas Lendi, Geschäftsführer des Flüchtlingszentrums gegenüber Radio Liechtenstein. Sie seien bemüht, dem Mann Perspektiven zu geben – dass er Liechtenstein verlassen muss, dies könne er jedoch höchstwahrscheinlich nicht umgehen. Deshalb bleibe zu hoffen, dass sich der Iraner dem anstehenden Weg öffnet.
Seit Dienstagabend befindet sich der 33-Jährige im Hungerstreik. Der Mann, der zum Katholizismus konvertierte, befürchtet bei einer Abschiebung in den Iran Verfolgung und Repression. (bfs)

Ein leerer Basar
Zusammen mit den seit 2005 verhängten Sanktionen soll die iranische Wirtschaft erheblich getroffen werden. Erste Auswirkungen spüren die Menschen in Form von enormen Preissteigerungen schon seit geraumer Zeit: Benzin hat sich um das Dreifache verteuert und auch die Preise für Brot und Milchprodukte haben sich in den vergangen Jahren verdoppelt. Und die iranische Währung, der Rial, befindet sich im freien Fall. Sogar in einer der stolzen Traditionsbranchen des Landes, der Teppichindustrie, sind die Auswirkungen der Sanktionen deutlich zu spüren.

Sanktionen zwingen Teheran zu Geldkontrolle
Unter dem Druck internationaler Sanktionsbeschlüsse hat sich die iranische Zentralbank zur Festsetzung eines festen Umtauschkurses zwischen der Landeswährung Rial und dem US-Dollar gezwungen gesehen.
Die Siegespose wird für Präsident Mahmoud Ahmadinejad immer ofter zu Zweckoptimismus
Die Bank kündigte an, ab Samstag gelte für alle Überweisungen und genehmigten Importe, für Studentenstipendien im Ausland und Touristen im Inland ein Kurs von 12.260 Rial für einen Dollar.
Im Streit um das iranische Atomprogramm hatten die EU-Staaten am Montag neben einem Ölembargo gegen den Iran auch Sanktionen gegen die iranische Zentralbank beschlossen. Dabei werden unter anderem Guthaben der Bank in Europa eingefroren. Auch die USA hatten jüngst ihre Sanktionen gegen die Notenbank verschärft.
Präsident Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sagte am Donnerstag nach Angaben des Staatsfernsehens, die neuen Sanktionen würden den Iran nicht schmerzen. Die Erfahrung habe gezeigt, dass “die iranische Nation nicht verletzt werden wird”.

Iranische Parlamentswahlen 2012
Die Parlamentswahlen 2012 im Iran finden am 2. März 2012 statt[1].
Bewerber um die 275 Sitze des iranischen Parlaments konnten sich zwischen dem 24. und 30. Dezember 2011 als Kandidaten registrieren lassen. Insgesamt haben sich über 3.000 beworben. Die Liste der zur Wahl zugelassenen Kandidaten wird vom Wächterrat bekanntgegeben.[2]
Vorgeschichte
Nach den Betrugsvorwürfen bei den iranischen Präsidentschaftswahlen 2009 erwarten Beobachter eine niedrige Wahlbeteiligung.[1] Mit Verweis auf die seitdem unter Hausarrest stehenden Oppositionsführer Zahra Rahnaward, Mir Hossein Mussawi und Mehdi Karroubi rief die in Großbritannien lebende iranische Friedensnobelpreisträgerin Schirin Ebadi Ende Januar 2012 alle Iraner zum Wahlboykott auf.[3] Bereits im Dezember 2011 hatte der frühere Staatspräsident Mohammad Chātami die Reformer aufgefordert, sich gar nicht erst als Kandidaten registrieren zu lassen. Iran Update: Guardian Council Approves New Islamic Penal Code
Radio Zamaneh reported last night that the Guardian Council has approved legislation for a revised Islamic Penal Code, announcing that it does not contradict the principles of Shari’a or the Constitution of the Islamic Republic constitution.

Blogger Dr. Mehdi Khazali On Day 20 Of Hunger Strike And In Poor Health
Blogger and an ophthalmologist Dr. Khazali has been on a hunger strike for 12 days and is not in a very good physical condition.
According to reports received by Kalameh, Dr. Khazali was violently arrested and beaten up by the arresting agents. He suffered a broken arm and has a cast on his arm.

8000 Prisoners In Evin Are Under Harsh Conditions With No Heating, Cold Cells And No Medical Care
The prisoners confined in Evin prison are under very harsh condition these days due to shortage of heating fuel.
According to reports received by Kalameh, the heating system in Evin prison has not been working recently due to a lack of heating fuel, thus creating an unbearable condition for the prisoners.
In the last few days the prisoners have had to use cold water for taking showers.

Assassins of the Turquoise Palace by Roya Hakakian (Grove Press)[ books ] During the first two decades of its existence, the Islamic Republic killed thousands of individuals, both inside and outside of the country, who had been identified as enemies of the state. During this homicidal campaign, the regime defined enemies not just as purported members of the political opposition; the regime sought to “surgically” remove all free thinkers, particularly those who were critical of the new narrative of the Shia faith: the guardianship of the jurist. The elimination of domestic enemies of the state peaked in 1998-99 when scores of Iranian writers, poets, and other intellectuals were systematically kidnapped and murdered. The killings at home stopped when the reformist President Mohammad Khatami conducted his first (and last) courageous act by overseeing the arrest and conviction of a few murderous agents from the Intelligence Ministry. The killings abroad, however, had peaked earlier, on September 17, 1992, with the assassination of several Kurdish leaders in the Mykonos restaurant in Berlin. That terrorist act eventually led to the conviction in absentia of top Iranian leaders and brought an end to the acts of terror on foreign soil sponsored by the Islamic Republic, acts that were routinely ignored by the host countries and were boasted of by notorious cleric Ali Fallahian, the minister of intelligence. The Mykonos affair also contributed to the rise of the reformists in the 1990s, who campaigned to bring back “the honor of the country” distorted by that heinous act of terror in Berlin. A source close to the family of Abolfazl Tabarzadi, 24, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that the imprisoned student was transferred from Karoon Prison to the psychiatric ward of a hospital in Ahvaz. According to the source, Tabarzadi suffers from severe paranoia and depression and prison authorities were forced to transfer him to a hospital because they were no longer able to control him inside the prison.
