Statement by 249 Iranian Pro-Peace Initiative Condemning Terror and the Assassination of Iran’s Nuclear Scientists

The Intelligence war with the Islamic Republic and various acts of sabotage — from assassination of senior commanders and scientists to destroying missile and nuclear facilities — that are currently underway, are but a piece of the long chain of damage and destruction imposed on Iranian people, by the Islamic Republic and its nuclear escapades.

We, as active opponents of war, strongly condemn the assassination of Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, the scientist and a supervisor at Natanz nuclear facility, and such acts of violence, which jeopardize the national security and scientific assets of our country.

Such behavior is in direct violation of formal policy of talks and negotiations, which can produce mutually beneficial results and reduce chances of war.  Terrorism of any kind, regardless of its reasons, must be condemned as it renders all peacekeeping efforts null and void and it only legitimizes counter-violence and further acts of terror.

Iranian Intelligence forces that thus far have made every effort to crackdown on their opponents — even those within the regime – and silence dissenting voices and opposing media; have proven to be completely unable to deal with such threats.

Their inability in this regard raises serious concern about their nuclear plants that may be faced with the same degree of inadequate safety measures thereby causing potential devastating of immeasurable magnitude.   Iran’s internal Security leaders, particularly the Minister of Intelligence must be held accountable for the grave failure in protecting the safety and security of Iranian scientists.

We believe that the country’s security and economic and technological growth can only be ensured by a leadership committed to national interests, alleviation of tensions with neighbors and the international community and above all, making peace with the people of Iran and the transferring of power to them.  The real security of the country could only be established when our leadership abandons policies of isolationism, suppression of citizens and tension building; and instead moves toward reducing enemies and adding friends, engages in peaceful and effective partnerships across the region, opens the doors and allows the political climate to expand and the country’s economy to breath again and connect with the rest of the world.

While we condemn the terror of the Iranian scientist – committed by any person or government – we ask all democracy-seeking social and political activists to openly express their opposition to all acts of violence, terror or tension building; while they also draw a line of separation between people and the regime’s nuclear adventurism with emphasize on undeniable right of Iranians on using peaceful atomic energy.   We also ask the Islamic Republic to take the first step in preventing the sanctions as well as hidden or open threats of war, by suspending Uranium enrichment.
Also we warn to the foreign groups who despite the apparent opposition whenever their interest demand, they apply terrorist approach, Iranian people are sensitive about keeping the life of innocent and civil citizen and also do not tolerate any action which target Iran national security.
