UNITED4IRAN: Azadi Square Around the World!

 

Amnesty International USA and United4Iran partnered to coordinate an Azadi Square Campaign to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Iran in their struggle for human rights.

Azadi (Freedom) Square in Tehran is a prominent public place where some of the massive peaceful protests of two years ago took place. Sadly, the government brutally crushed the protests; but even though Iranians can no longer safely gather in their own Azadi Square, we can show our support.

NYT: „Iran said it launched a satellite into orbit on Wednesday that Western aerospace experts said could be used for limited military reconnaissance and also to monitor crops and track damage from earthquakes, flooding and other natural disasters. It was the second time that an Iranian rocket had carried a satellite into orbit and took place more than two years after Iran joined the international space club by launching its first satellite. Iran released few details about the satellite, which it calls Rasad-1, or Observation-1. Western experts said it weighed about 100 pounds – meaning that the light payload and the modest rocket carrying it bore little resemblance to an intercontinental missile and its heavy warhead. Politics Ahmadinejad removes Intelligence Minister Hojjat al-Eslam Heydar Moslehi from the Money and Credit Council. Rafsanjani addresses Motalefeh central committee members: „In today’s world one can’t speak of democracy while avoiding powerful and independent parties representing different inclinations….“ Mohammad-Nabi Habibi, Motalefeh director general: „We believe that the group of reformists who accept the principles of the Islamic Republic: the guardianship of the jurist, the Supreme Leader and the constitution, should have the right to be present and active in [shaping] the destiny of the country, even in case they fiercely oppose the Motalefeh Party.“ Professor Sadeq Zibakalam, in a discussion at Qazvin University: „I wish Khatami had one percent or even one one-thousandth of Ahmadinejad’s boldness. Rather than answer if Khatami had secret negotiations with Shimon Peres or not, I say I wish he had the courage to do so!“

Saeed Malekpour’s Death Sentence Thrown Out, New Trial Ordered

On June 2, the Free Saeed Malekpour Campaign delivered some outstanding news. The campaign posted that the “Iranian supreme court threw out Saeed’s death sentence and ordered a new penalty trial. Saeed [will be able to] finally meet his IT lawyer… to prepare a defense case for the new trial.”

Am Tag des traditionellen Frühjahrsputzes vor dem iranischen Neujahrsanfang wird im Leben dreier iranischer Frauen viel Staub aufgewirbelt: Die unglücklich verheiratete Mojdeh vermutet in ihrer geschiedenen Nachbarin Simin die Geliebte ihres Mannes Morteza und instrumentalisiert ihre frisch verlobte Putzfrau Rouhi, um den beiden auf die Schliche zu kommen. Rouhi gerät aus ihrer stillen Beobachterposition zunehmend zwischen die Fronten der hysterisch eifersüchtigen Mojdeh und dem von den kontinuierlichen Anschuldigungen und heimlichen Nachforschungen seiner Frau überspannten Morteza, deren verbale Auseinandersetzungen zu Gewaltausbrüchen führen. Dabei schwanken Rouhis Sympathien zwischen den drei Parteien, für deren unterschiedliche Lebenssituationen sie im Versuch, die Wahrheit der angeblichen Affäre zu ergründen, gleichermaßen Mitgefühl entwickelt. Die emotionale Anspannung und latente Hysterie, die sich hinter den abgeriegelten Betonmauern des Wohnkomplexes aufbauen, lassen auch die lebensfrohe Rouhi nicht unberührt zurück. Als sich inmitten des Funken sprühenden Feuerfestes „Chahar Shanbeh Souri“ die Konflikte entladen und die Wahrheit ans Licht kommt, kann die junge Frau nur noch mit gedämpften Hoffnungen auf ihr eigenes Glück zu ihrem Verlobten zurückkehren.
Der dritte Spielfilm des iranischen Regisseurs und Drehbuchautors Asghar Farhadi war nicht zuletzt wegen der brillanten Besetzung ein großer Erfolg bei Publikum und Kritik. In der Rolle von Rouhi ist Taraneh Alidousti zu sehen, die auch die Titelrolle in Farhadis Melodram „Alles über Elly“ spielte, für das er 2009 auf der Berlinale den „Silbernen Bären“ erhielt. Farhadi erzählt differenziert und ohne Gut-Böse-Zuordnungen von schwierigen Beziehungen zwischen Mann und Frau in der iranischen Kultur und versteht es, mit seinem leisen, figurennahen Inszenierungsstil auf allgemeine gesellschaftliche Probleme aufmerksam zu machen. Sein neuer Film „Nader and Simin – A Separation“ wurde auf der Berlinale 2011 mit dem „Goldenen“ Bären ausgezeichnet.
